Overton School now open to autistic younger pupils

Overton specialist school for autistic children and young people and those with complex needs, is extending its educational offer to include Key Stage 2 pupils aged 7-11. The school, part of Options Autism, provides a caring, bespoke learning environment where all pupils can engage with their education and achieve their full potential.

The school, rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted, is situated on the outskirts of Ludlow, with excellent links to the road, rail and public transport network. Surrounded by extensive gardens which include a Forest School, the beautiful Victorian building has recently been refurbished, incorporating the latest state-of-the-art design, to accommodate every pupil’s needs.

Commenting on the extension of provision to KS2 pupils, Head of Service, Nicola Chokkuea(pictured) said, “We are all very excited to welcome our younger cohort to Overton. Now we can offer amazing opportunities to pupils aged 7 through to 18, providing continuity and support throughout KS2 and KS3 for autistic children and young people from Shropshire and also the surrounding areas of Powys and Herefordshire.

“We offer a caring, consistent environment with appropriate structure, enabling our pupils to successfully engage in education, develop social skills and a sense of self-worth. Our extensive experience in supporting autistic individuals enables us to deliver the best possible support for our pupils, so they can achieve in all areas of their development.

“Our highly experienced team of teachers carefully builds resilient relationships with pupils, explores their interests and develops their curiosity for the world around them, providing them with new opportunities and challenge. Pupils are also supported by the latest edtech such as our AI robot – QTrobot, an interactive, educational robot, which helps enhance our pupils’ learning and supports the development of socially empowering life skills.

“Many autistic pupils have previously had negative experiences associated with school which can present considerable barriers to accessing and enjoying learning. At Overton, we provide bespoke support to re-engage these children and young people, so they can achieve in all areas of their development and succeed in their future life.”
