High Sheriff in the community

Hugh Trevor-Jones, the Bridgnorth based High Sheriff of Shropshire, has spent the last six months supporting young people in the county and finding out how we as a community engage and encourage them. As High Sheriff he is appointed by The Queen to act as Her Majesty’s representative which means taking a real interest in the well-being of the county and all those who contribute to life in our community.

The role provides an opportunity to bring people together for the good of the community, to meet and share ideas, and Mr Trevor-Jones has been keen to involve Bridgnorth and Much Wenlock as much as possible during his year in Office. He has just held a Civic Reception at the Town Hall in Bridgnorth, where he welcomed members of the community, particularly those involved with young people.

The final event of his year will be a gathering of Judges and county leaders at the High Sheriff’s Legal Service to be held in March at Holy Trinity Church, Much Wenlock. The service is to give thanks for “the Queen’s Peace and our Heritage” and tea will be
held at the new William Brookes School following the service: “It will provide a wonderful opportunity to celebrate all that Shropshire has to offer, both in terms of our heritage and our provision for the future.

It is important that Much Wenlock’s historic Olympic connections are also recognised. It will be a fitting end to a busy year.” To find out more about this ancient office Mr Trevor-Jones has a web site: www.highsheriffofshropshire.co.uk
