Marie Ellis has taken part in the event for the past 25 years and has been organising it for the last 15 years. For the majority of that time her daughter Sarah Rollings has made what has become a feature of the event, a Sweet Pea arch, using sweet peas grown by local lady Althea Brookes especially for the weekend. This year, Marie will also be joined by her 3 year old granddaughter, Maisie, who is following in her Granny’s footsteps developing a keen interest in flowers. To keep the family theme the festival has “When we were very Young” at its centre, incorporating many of the nursery rhymes close to the heart.
The Flower Festival will run from 25th – 27th June, coinciding with St Peter‘s Tide, and there will be a refreshments tent as well as Cake, Produce and Plant Stalls. The church will be open from 10am on Saturday, Sunday and Monday with a Songs of Praise Service at 7pm on Sunday where everyone will be made very welcome.
