Shropshire retreat for Commonwealth Games

Sports fans seeking a unique B&B experience for this summer’s Commonwealth Games are being invited to relax in Shropshire.

The Field Studies Council is opening the doors of its Preston Montford site (pictured), near Shrewsbury, as a get-away-from-it-all option for spectators attending the Games in Birmingham and the West Midlands.

The hostel-style accommodation is perfect for groups and is within about an hour’s drive from most of the Games venues, especially the mountain bike course at Cannock Chase. Regular trains to Birmingham run from nearby Shrewsbury station.

At the end of the sporting day, after all the excitement of the competition, FSC Preston Montford offers the perfect place to rest in the peace and quiet of the Shropshire countryside.

Liz Wilcox, from the Field Studies Council, said: “The West Midlands region is looking forward to welcoming athletes and guests from all over the world for the festival of sport and culture that the Commonwealth Games brings.

“Preston Montford is the perfect place to stay for anyone who will be joining in with the event while also looking to discover one of the UK’s most beautiful counties.”

Bed and breakfast accommodation at Preston Montford is available in a range of room sizes, all with a private bathroom and shower, and includes free wifi. Family rooms are also available and the centre is set in its own gardens.

The Commonwealth Games takes place in Birmingham and the West Midlands region from July 28 to August 8 and will see more than 5,000 athletes from 72 countries competing in 21 able-bodied and para sports.

Some tickets are still available at www.birmingham2022.com/
