Golden Christmas celebrations

The Golden Jubilee year of the Severn Valley Railway (SVR) is drawing to its end, and the staff and volunteers are working hard to prepare the best Christmas ever. The world-famous attraction is preparing for its busiest time of the year, with tens of thousands of people expected to join the festive fun during December.

Father Christmas will be waiting in his glorious grotto at Arley Station to welcome little passengers travelling on the SVR’s fleet of Santa Steam Specials on selected dates from 5 to 24 December. Hot chestnuts and other traditional treats will fortify young and old before the board the train for the return journey to Kidderminster.

The big man in red will also be making an appearance on the Santa Heralds, mixing with passengers, posing for selfies, and handing out presents to the littler ones.

Schools and nurseries can enjoy the Christmas Cracker services, and there is also a special train for the musically inclined – the Christmas Carol trains run on 12 and 19 December, stopping at Arley and Bewdley for a sing-song (mince pies and hot punch will be on hand to warm up vocal chords).
