With more than 15,000 travelling tickets sold and an estimated 30,000 spectators over a six-day period, the visit of the Flying Scotsman to Severn Valley Railway looks set to become the most successful event in the SVR’s 51-year history. Sunny weather helped boost crowd numbers as fans turned out to catch a glimpse of the nation’s best-loved steam engine.

SVR’s Clare Gibbard says, “Everyone’s worked so hard for so many months and the fact that the event has gone so smoothly, in spite of unprecedented numbers, is testament to the team’s meticulous planning and dedication. We’re delighted we’ve brought so much joy to so many people and it’s been worth the significant investment made to bring Scotsman to the Severn Valley.”
