Bridgnorth has been recognised for one of its outstanding events in the National Market Awards organised by the National Association of British Market Authorities at Birmingham’s Guild Hall. The town won ‘Best Small Speciality Market’ for the annual Christmas ‘Lighting Up’ event which is organised by the town council and volunteers of the Bridgnorth events committee in November.
“It seems incredible that the town has scooped yet another prestigious award to compliment its success as 2016 Best High Street – Large Market Town in December” said town mayor Vanessa Voysey, “It’s more great news for Bridgnorth and for the many people who put so much into such events.”
The judges made the following comments when announcing that Bridgnorth had won: “For this event Bridgnorth links markets, local food and craft promotion, a fun fair and an evening programme of entertainment crammed into its traditional high street. It fully involves its local community, is provided on a very limited budget and has grown to become an event of county-wide significance.”
It is the highlight of the local winter calendar; it unites the community, provides a recipe for success that many can learn from and delivers an excellent event through a very strong partnership.”
The award was presented to Bridgnorth mayor Vanessa Voysey and town clerk Anne Wilson by Andrew Percy MP, minister for markets and high Streets. “Bridgnorth is having quite a run” he remarked.
